Recently a lovely gal named Rachel contacted me to see if I’d be interested in reviewing SoCoolKids soaps. I’m still fairly new to the Product Review game having only done two official product reviews previously and not very recently. Reviews just are not really something I want to delve into too deeply here at Real Mom Time (RMT) since I am all about keeping it as real as possible (you can read my policy on product reviews for more about that). However, since this product was already something we use around here daily (bar soap), it was an easy pitch. We’ve never been into using liquid soap in the bathroom due to spillage and overuse… that and we have about 100 bars of soaps from frequent travels. But now, thanks to SoCoolKids, we are reminded just how small those hotel soaps really are!

According to founder and company owner Lauren Beck, SoCoolKids is about capturing that “inherent beauty of children, in a way that I felt was missing in today’s marketing. Our inspiration comes from the ease that flourishes in kids; their smiles during a morning walk on the beach with mom; quiet family time by the lake; or mountain biking with dad in the desert!”

I agree that one SoCoolKids product in particular captures this sentiment perfectly: The Surf Sand Soap. This bar soap is composed of all-natural ingredients and made right here in the USA (Los Angeles and upstate New York) as are all of the SoCoolKids products. As you can see in the photo, the Surf Sand Soap embodies all that the beach is, down to the exfoliating qualities of a walk on the sand with the scent of the ocean lingering longingly in the air after use. While the gritty texture of the soap was a bit too rough for my son’s liking and the pointed corners made it difficult to rub directly onto his body at first, it still lathered up easily enough for bath time and he welcomed the change from his usual liquid body wash (yes, I realize the irony of not using liquid hand soap but using liquid body wash). C also said it got T clean and was as easy as using the body wash, which is as if not more important since he’s in charge of tub time after all. I’ve also used the soap – after a trip to the beach, actually! – and enjoyed the feeling of scrubbing my body clean of the salts, sunscreens, and other residues that had built up on my skin from the long day out.

We also received the Watermelon, Mango, Orange, and Banana glycerin soaps. So far I’ve put a bar of the Orange and Mango in each of our bathrooms. After just two weeks of use, I’m loving them both; yes, SoCoolKids isn’t just for kids, parents! I’m not getting the usual dryness of a glycerin soap (or other bar soaps for that matter) perhaps because of the Aloe Vera that SoCoolKids mixes into their formula. The colors are cheery and the scents are as bright as their hues. In fact, T told me that the Orange reminds him of a lollipop.

T’s friends agree. A couple of them also have tried a bar of the Orange Glycerin Soap in the shower and love the smell and how “smooth” it feels. While they reported that this style of soap isn’t as robust as the Surf Sand Soap at tub time (it’s “melting” quickly during use and getting rather “jelly-like” in the soap dish as most glycerin soaps tend to do in high-humidity situations… remember that gold-colored big-brand glycerin bar that was so popular in the 1980s?!), it has lasted longer at the sink for hand washing. Hey, maybe this means the kids will wash their hands more easily knowing there’s a sweet soap treat waiting for them at the sink. We can dream(sicle), right?

    • It really is.

Also: Please make sure that along with leaving a blog comment, tweet, and/or Facebook and/or Twitter “like” that you and others click through on the large, bolded Rafflecopter hyperlink to enter also. That’s what’s tracking it all and where the names go into one “hat” for me to select a winner. I hope that makes sense. This is my first giveaway so I want to be as clear as possible. Thanks! 🙂
