To participate, students must complete an application form, write a one-page essay on a given prompt, and submit a letter of recommendation from a teacher, school administrator or community leader such as a church pastor, scout leader, etc. A $250 fee applied to participate in the 2017 program. Geno DeAngelis, Director of Baseball Operations
***UPDATED FOR 2018!!!*** Since my kid can’t seem to get enough baseball, that sent me in search of additional baseball opportunities in the LB area, and that led me straight to those Dirtbags… the Long Beach State Dirtbags, that is! Scratch programming is also offered for older campers starting in Grade 3. From their Facebook page: “Hey now! This summer you can try out: Scratch coding at the TKTC Studio at the EXPO; Awesome Battleship Science on board the USS Iowa; (and) Creatively cool science and tinkering at Temple Israel’s Torah Center. Plus we are offering a unique chance for high schoolers to learn about drones and work towards licensing at Sato Academy!” I think if you follow the blog at all, it’s obvious why we enrolled in these camps year after year (that and it was by far the most reasonably priced camp involving LEGOs for when T was a younger age!). You can read about one of our previous camp experiences with Shared Science here. Register for 2017 camps online here. Thanks again to Miss Michelle and Mr. E for a great week filled with learning and fun times!
***UPDATED FOR 2018!!!*** Touted on its flier as “The best camp at the best price,” Tom Hicks Baseball Camps are back for their 29th year in 2018! Every Little League coach we’ve met to date has raved about Tom Hicks and his camps (my husband included – he heard him speak at a coaches clinic and was quite impressed). Sponsored by Diamond Sports, these camps for all skill levels are for boys and girls ages 5-14 years are five separate 5-day/ week-long sessions 9 a.m.-to-3 p.m., and the 2018 dates are as follows: June 25-June 29; July 9-13; July 16-20; July 23-27; and July 30-August 3. I also am happy to support our local parks and recreation department any way possible.
